Introducing SCULPTRA. The original biostimulator.

WHAT IS SCULPTRA?

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA has been widely used for many years in medical products. When injected Sculptra has a liquid consistency and is injected underneath the skin. Once injected, Sculptra incorporates into the tissues and stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen. The effects develop gradually due to the time needed for the body to stimulate collagen production.  

As we age, so does the skin, and its underlying structures.  Collagen loss, bone remodelling and fat redistribution all contribute to changes that result in a less youthful appearance of your face.  In our bodies, collagen corresponds to 75% of the dry weight of skin and to 33% of the total protein, providing support and maintaining skin shape.  As the production of collagen decreases with age, so does the quality of the collagen.   In addition, collagen degradation increases with age.  As collagen depletes, elasticity and volume are lost.  Sculptra addresses the loss of volume by stimulating and revitalising your own natural collagen production to restore the inner structure of the skin.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SCULPTRA?

Good candidates for Sculptra should have healthy immune systems and no history of keloid scars. Also, you should not have a medical condition that requires you to take blood thinners, be pregnant or breast feeding. 

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH SCULPTRA TREATMENT?

At Eden MediSpa we will ensure that your treatment will be performed under sterile precautions with the utmost care and comfort.  When injected we make an initial puncture with a small needle and use this opening to glide a blunt cannula (like an IV catheter) to inject the product to the desired areas. After the treatment you will need to massage the treated area for five minutes, five times a day for five days. This step is crucial so that bio stimulating microparticles get evenly distributed and start stimulating collagen.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR SCULPTRA TREATMENT?

We recommend staying well hydrated with ideally 8 glasses of water in a 24-hour hour period prior to the day of treatment. Please, avoid wearing makeup on the day of your treatment. We will cleanse your skin thoroughly prior to the procedure to prevent infection.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME WITH SCULPTRA?

You can expect to have mild soreness and some swelling at the injection sites for about 2 to 3 days until the Sculptra incorporates into the tissues. Bruising can sometimes occur, but the risk is minimized with the use of blunt tip microcannulas for injection. 

WHEN CAN I EXPECT RESULTS WITH SCULPTRA?

Subtle results can typically be seen within a month of Sculptra injection. These results will continue to build as new collagen can take up to 6 months to form. 

WHEN SHOULD I FOLLOW UP AFTER SCULPTRA?

The recommended treatment protocol advise that Sculptra should be administered over 1 to 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart.  Results last up to at least 25 months and can be maintained by performing a smaller re-stimulation treatment every 2 years.  It is better to under treat and add more Sculptra later.
